What is an A record?

An A record is a type of DNS record used for pointing the hostname to the IPV4 address (51.91.204.1).

So if you own example.com and set its A record then you would be updating the DNS record to point to the IP address of the server on which your site is hosted on.

For IPv6 addresses use AAAA records.
